This is truly a place to be visited in the south part of Tuscany, near Grosseto. The town is perched atop a volcanic tufa ridge, giving it a unique character, and is also known as Little Jerusalem (Piccola Gerusalemme), for its centuries-long Jewish community.
Because of its location on Tuscany’s southern tip, one hour away from the coast, Pitigliano is a lesser-known treasure to be discovered in this incredible region of Italy. Walking on its narrow alleys at dusk is truly a trip back in time, and you can’t stop wondering about how life must have been there since the Etruscans times, around the 6th century BC.
