Making new friends along the way: this big fellow was going about his day when I crossed his path, and I stopped for a little chat and a couple of photos. He was a good sport and didn’t mind my presence for a little while, and seemed rather curious about my bike.
The ‘Italian White Roads’ route is on its second day of scouting, and I left Rapallo this morning, near Portofino, to ride along the Cinque Terre National Park. Beautiful and colorful little towns along the way, and views that are hard to beat. The Italian Riviera is truly one of the most picturesque coastal areas I have ever seen.
The highlight of the day, though, was the road up the hills just behind La Spezia, a port city right after Cinque Terre. Getting lost on purpose turned out to be a right call, for I have found forgotten trails that could have been in any ‘Lord of the Rings’ movie. The contrast between the gorgeous blue sea views in the morning and the vivid green hills in the afternoon made for another perfect day on the road.
On to Volterra tomorrow, and the start of a journey of discoveries in Tuscany.
